Trio

My Aunt approached me and asked if I would create a painting of her three horses. Two have recently passed away and she really wanted an image to represent them. We started with a conversation and a sketch, measuring the space and copying down colors she has in her room. My husband and I put the stretchers together, he had to cut a notch into the center brace so they would fit together. We stretched the canvas and then I used a projector to get the initial sketches of her horses onto the canvas. The piece is 42”x52” so I felt that using a projector would help me keep the proportions correct on such a large scale. I adjusted, and readjusted and kept changing the composition until my aunt and I were both satisfied with the image. Then it was time to finally paint, I wanted to make it lively, somewhat abstract but also realistic enough to represent her horses.
