Strata
This group of work began with the idea of remembering and forgetting and how our mind is not always neatly stacked. The mind can be a haphazard thing. It morphs and changes memories, it forgets and deletes information. Time also affects the flow and retrieval of memory which in turn affects what we know, feel and perceive.
These ideas grew and branched into new themes and thoughts, like how the passage of time changes cultural ideals and belief systems. Through the passage of time old ideals fall away and give way to new. Constant transition, movement and change are an integral part of our lives. Time brings change which bends and morphs the influences of previous belief constructs and the rules that we create for ourselves, the memories of the past. Old relics are looked at with a new generation of eyes who may see them with reverence, but also with a certain amount of disconnection from the power they once held. They become less relevant to our lives and new idols are raised in their place. They become curiosities instead of gods.
The end goal of this exploration is to create a cohesive body of work that speaks about the human condition, the impermanence of our existence and our search for the great truth as we travel through this life. This series is still in progress. Layers of strata still to be explored.
